Those same tears would resurface a week later when the trail markers ceased and I temporarily became disoriented on one of Switzerland's most infamous hiking trails ... alone....in the middle of the thunderstorm.
The crackle of static electricity and subsequent bumble of thunder was only dwarfed by the two-story waterfall to my right. Being out in the open while holding two metal hiking sticks, one's immediate inclination is to duck ... and then panic. Somewhere in my mad dash downhill, I convinced myself that irrational fear of being lost in the Swiss Alps or being eaten by a mountain lion... do they even have mountain lions in the Swiss Alps? ...was just that ...irrational fear.
